Bird Brick Houses
Javelin helped with the design and development of the moulding for a unique Bird Box system that is actually built into the cavity walls; a recent article published is as follows:
The unique bird boxes were designed and installed by local firm Bird Brick Houses and will provide a predator and weather-proof home for a family of birds in the walls of Waitrose in Hailsham.
Bird Brick Houses is a family run business, operating out of Hailsham, which installs bird boxes of their own unique design. The bird boxes can be matched to any existing or new brickwork and fit seamlessly into brick walls. They also have a unique removable front that enables them to be cleaned out and allows a camera to be installed if required.
“I applaud Bird Brick Houses as an excellent example of green enterprise and local entrepreneurship. They are yet another Wealden-based firm offering a quality, innovative product,” said Councillor Roy Galley, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Regeneration. “I also would like to thank Waitrose for its support of local business and helping to enhance local biodiversity. I would encourage other firms and developers to follow its
“We are passionate that wildlife should be encouraged into urban areas, the benefits of this have been linked to improved wellbeing for both birds and people,” said Jenny McCutchan of Bird Brick Houses. “There has been a decline in a number of native bird species due to the loss of nest sites and we hope we can help turn this around. Our vision is to see an integral bird box in each new dwelling and building constructed.
The tooling was designed to all be in line of draw in order to simplify construction and long term reliability. A unique boss and fixing design meant large wall sections were eliminated and cycle times enhanced. A quick turnaround and Javelin’s many resources meant the product was on the market within a very tight budget and timing.

Success at Southern Manufacturing
Southern Manufacturing 2013 went extremely well for us; we spoke to many people and obtained lots of new contacts.
It was also a great opportunity to meet up with existing customers and discuss current business and projects. On one of the days we actually ended up having a full get together with all of the team on a current development project, which actually happened around the coffee table!
Just one of the many benefits of having everyone together at one time.
Delivery performance enhanced
To help with the logistics and delivery performance another van has been added to the fleet. Look out for the new eyecatching graphics and smart appearance of this new van.

Technical Manager, Simon Pepper, commented that Javelin had carried out an in depth survey of various machine manufacturers looking at characteristics such as running costs, platen sizes and shot weight and not just purchase price. Javelin Plastics announces the opening of it’s new 52, 000 square feet manufacturing and warehousing facility in Camberley. Over the last 28 years Javelin has grown to a £10m plastics injection moulding and toolmaking outfit with additional departments specialising in printing, assembly and ultra-sonic welding. These operations have been spread out across 4 factories but have now been able to come together under one roof.
